Week 41:Lightning Bolt Baseball
Happy Summer!
Spiritual Thought:
We talked about Hope and Faith (together) this week with our Zone. I've had people ask me how do I have hope? Because often hope is based on a specific outcome.
And it's true, it’s hard.
Sometimes it's harder to have hope than it is to have faith. As if setting high hopes paves the way for disappointment.
But while Faith is fixed on the process
Hope is anchored on the outcome
And that's ok.
Because while faith is trusting that all the outcomes of this life will ultimately be for our gain.
Hope is sticking around happily to find out. “Hope is not simply wishful thinking. Instead, it is an abiding confidence, grounded in your faith in Christ, that God will fulfill His promises to you (Moroni 7:42). It is the expectation “of good things to come” through Christ (Hebrews 9:11).”
Because the Plan of Salvation works for the benefit of all God's children, “As you center your hope in Christ, you have the assurance that all things will work together for your good (Doctrine and Covenants 90:24).”
And sharing this with people makes me very happy.
Short Version of Email: I don't feel like writing this so you'll just have to read the whole thing. :)
Finnish Word of the Week: Ei ole kaikki Mummit laksossa = Means “a few cards short of a full deck” but literally translates to "all of the moomins are not in the valley”. (this is based on a famous Finnish tv show)
Daylight Counter!
Where we started–4 Hours 40 minutes
This week–18 Hours 58 minutes
These times are only from sundown to sunset. It is actually lighter for much longer because you can still see for a while while the sun is going up and down.
So there is visible light for at least 20 hours of the day if not more. Crazy stuff.
5 Amazing Things This Week:
1: Tuesday was spent presenting at a Finnish high school. We were separated into groups based on different religions and kids could come talk to us and learn about the church. It was a great missionary opportunity and very unique.
2: Our P-day was moved to Wednesday and we went to all the museums in Tampere. It was super fun and quite enlightening.
3: We played Pessäpalo with the youth in the wards. Imagine baseball but the bases are in a lightning bolt shape, you run left to right and the ball is always in play. It was quite fun and very interesting. If you want to see a cool Finnish sport look it up.
4: All the Finnish High schools had graduation which means graduation parties. We got to do some lovely service and make layered sweet cakes, savory bread, salmon cakes and tons of other food.
5: Testimony meeting was a highlight. The members here don't take it for granted. The time is always so filled and it is amazing to hear from so many people about how they saw the “Hand of the Lord” in their lives.
Tender Mercy of the Week:
We have been working on setting specific goals in aspects of the work this week, like finding, teaching, etc. We especially set a “daily finding goal” based on the amount of new phone numbers we think we can get that day. It has been so cool to see how- as we pray about our goals - work hard to accomplish them - there have been so many miracles - where we accomplish them. Another reminder to me to include the Lord in all aspects of my life. Especially my goals.
Where I am/Who I'm With: I am serving in Tampere. My companion is Elder Salisbury.
Fun Facts about Elder Salisbury:
-Got a buzz cut
-Knows every inch of the Smithfield temple. (worked as a sweeper there)
-master grill master
-lives by the advice from Master Wu from Ninjago. “Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today”
Scripture of the Week:
Doctrine and Covenants 59:4
4 And they shall also be crowned with blessings from above, yea, and with commandments, not a few, and with revelations in their time—they that are faithful and diligent before me.
My thoughts: I was listening to a podcast where they said commandments used to mean "revelations" in old church language which is really cool in this verse. God promises to guide us and "crown us with many revelations"
Talk of the Week: Timing Dallin H. Oaks
My Thoughts: This week I searched up “good conference talks” and this one came up. It did not disappoint. Timing is so crucial in our lives. I like the quote where he says,
“In all the important decisions in our lives, what is most important is to do the right thing. Second, and only slightly behind the first, is to do the right thing at the right time.”
I miss you lots! Have an awesome summer!!
Send me an email if you would feel so inclined!
